Got my best time ever running in 30 degree weather on this Thanksgiving day. It was reported that it would be under 20 that morning, but I guess we caught a break. The race itself had more hills than I’ve ever run since my neighborhood in Maricopa is pretty flat all the way around. Oddly, uphill doesn’t bother me as much as downhill – downhill is tough for me – I can’t run as ‘graceful’.
I don’t ‘pace’ as well as my bro-in-law so I passed him in the first mile but he quickly caught up in the second and then left me before we finished the third. As I climbed the last hill to the finish line, I sprinted. My ‘official’ time won’t be posted online until Monday, but the clock read something like 35:50. ***UPDATE: 35:53 is my official time (see official times here!)***
After I almost threw up (seriously, I dry heaved) I walked over and grabbed a water and sat down. Then I remembered my iMapMyRun app was still running – so I pulled out my phone to find that it only shows 4.99k on the distance… arrgghhh!!!
So I got up and walked a few feet until it read 5k – which puts my phone time at 37:17 for a 5k – which is still a great time for me but I would have enjoyed seeing my phone with the same time as the official race results.
Regardless, I’m glad my family time at Thanksgiving isn’t ONLY sitting around a dinner table packing on the pounds!
